FUNDING AWARDS:

We received news today that the National Lottery Awards for All has awarded Girvan Men’s Shed a grant of £ 8398 to help with our community floral sensory garden at Girvan Football club. A very big thank you to all involved in the awarding process…

On 27th April 2020 we received word that a grant of £3,026.00 has been awarded to Girvan and District Men’s Shed by the Carrick Futures Community Benefit Fund Panel. 
We shedders would like to thank the board of Carrick Futures and the staff at Foundation Scotland for providing the grant in such difficult times.

A big thank you to Falck Assel Valley Community Benefit Fund (Girvan & District), for the grant of £2,010.00 towards our Garden Project.

In the future we will be looking for volunteers/groups etc. to kindly give up there time to help.

SENSORY GARDEN PROGRESS:

2020 June/July

  1. The sign writer is working on the full barrels
  2. The half barrels are being planted and arranged in a temporary location. Many thanks to the Girvan Community garden Project for helping us out. A visit to the community garden is recommended

2020 – Sept 5th – First visitors, Planting and weeding…

Had our first visitors today, all the way from England-thanks for the kind words.
Planting in a new bed and weeding, weeding, weeding etc. David had a smile on his face with the new strimmer and Pat wants a shot next time.
Once again we had to cut short our garden time as the rain stopped play, The annoying thing is about 45 mins after we left the sun came out.
If only we had funding for a Covid 19 safe socially distant, disabled friendly shelter we could wait the rain out in a safe place, if only…

2020 September 14th – the railway banking…

David, Pat, Sue and to a lesser extent myself, have been working away at clearing and planting at the banking. This is a movie a few weeks into the work. The weather has been against us but some of the days have been spectacular. Everyone is sort of getting fitter.
There is a long long way to go…

2021 March 2nd – Spring planting…

David, sue Pat and Winston have been very busy digging and planting. Sorry Winston, no photo’s of you because you were moving and some pics turned out weird. I took a great pic of you with the wheelbarrow transporting the blocks but it didn’t turn out. I will have to get you to pose properly.

2021 May – a lot of hard work to plant nearly 200 trees …

Trees from the woodland trust and various plants were dug into the soil. Replanting of trees, shrubs and plants were also carried out. A lot of work was carried out…

Very hot weather over the last week. Watering is done on a regular basis. Thanks to those volunteers who are helping out.
